The Master of Veterinary Biomedical Science program (VBMS) is a 1-year bridge curriculum dedicated to providing advanced academic learning in the life sciences. This MS degree can enhance the competitiveness of students seeking admission into doctoral-level professional programs and promote continued engagement in biomedical research throughout their careers. Graduates have successfully gone on to veterinary school, Ph.D. programs, and other health professional programs.
The VBMS program is a full-time, in-person graduate program, and the MS degree is accomplished in 30 credit hours. With a normal credit load of 15 hours per semester, students who make satisfactory academic progress should complete the degree in two semesters.
The curriculum gives students an opportunity to take Veterinary Anatomy (Fall) and Parasitology (Spring) alongside first-year DVM students at the LMU Richard A. Gillespie College of Veterinary Medicine. Other advanced courses offer students the chance to develop a stronger foundation in the sciences, increasing their familiarity with complex biological concepts.
Many students in the VBMS program possess a desire to attend veterinary school but have found various societal, educational, or personal obstacles to that goal. In keeping with Lincoln Memorial University's overall mission--improving the lives of LMU students and communities around Appalachia and the world--the VBMS program can provide benefits to doctoral degree seekers who have not had a traditional path through higher education. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions section for more about how the VBMS program can help professional degree seekers.
